As of the 1st of July 2014, changes to the costs of residing in aged care facilities will change. After July 1st if you are new to aged care, these changes will affect you.
Cost is one of the big factors to take into account when looking to move into aged care. There is no clear-cut answer to the cost of living in aged care but your costs may vary based on the following:
The date you enter the facility
- Your income and assets available on up until that date
- Whether you are a pensioner
- The require level of care you would require – i.e. low-level or high-level care.
The Australian Government is taking action to ensure that care solutions are affordable for everyone. Among these changes will be the regulation of maximum daily fees, also known as Daily Accommodation Payments, or DAPs.
There are two main categories of costing set out:
Refundable Accommodation Deposit (RAD)
- Daily Accommodation Payments (DAP).
RAD is calculated based on your current assets and your DAP is calculated based on your income.
Use the calculator below to work out your Daily Accommodation Payment.
